Coordinator Practice-based Research in Music

In addition to various bachelor's programs, the Prince Claus Conservatoire also provides the Master of Music. The following three parts are integrated in this Master study: Performance, Practice-based Research and Entrepreneurship. During the Master study, students work based on a personal study plan to develop their professional practice within each of these three courses. Master of Music students therefore choose research topics that are related to, for instance, artistic skills such as improvisation and composition or performance practice in various social settings. Personal musical or technical skills can also be the subject of Master research. We are looking for a Coordinator for Practice-based Research. The position has a scope of 0.3 FTE, of which 0.2 FTE is dedicated to coordinating tasks and the remaining 0.1 FTE to teaching duties.
As Coordinator Practice-Based Research, you will play a key role in shaping the research culture within the Conservatoire. Your responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and assigning practice-based research coaches to students.
- Developing educational materials and contributing to curriculum innovation.
- Teaching, lecturing and mentoring students throughout their research journey.
- Creating a stimulating, student-centered learning environment.
- Collaborating with coaching teams and research method colleagues.
- Contributing to the development of research within the Conservatoire.
The Prince Claus Conservatoire offers students from the North and the rest of the world the opportunity to develop further within the music profession and in its application within various musical and social contexts. She is also affiliated with the Research Centre Arts & Society and the Music in Context Lectorate. You will be part of the teaching and the coordination team of the Master of Music. You will report to the head of the Classical Music department.
You enjoy working with (international) students and have an affinity with music. You can't wait to share your knowledge and skills regarding music and practice-based research with students and colleagues. You are a team player, connector and enthusiastic colleague. You can work independently, are patient and understanding. You have practical experience in (at least two of) the following areas of expertise:
- Music (e.g., teaching or performance practice, or socially engaged music practice).
- Artistic research;
- Practice-based research;
- Music psychology;
- Research methods such as action research or design research.
What else do you bring?
- A completed Master’s degree and (working on) a PhD in Music.
- Research experience and experience in supervising students in research.
- A teaching qualification or willingness to learn.
- Demonstrable affinity with practice-based research.
- The ability to coordinate the deployment of research coaches, ensuring effective matching between students and supervisors and supporting a well-organized research trajectory.
- If you do not yet speak Dutch, you are expected to be willing to learn the language within a reasonable timeframe.
